Welcome!
It's hard to believe that a new school year is almost upon us. We are very excited for students to fill our halls and look forward to seeing both new and familiar faces as "back to school" officially arrives on September 7th. Please join us as your children start their first day of the 2010-2011 year by accompanying them to their classrooms at 8:45 a.m. to meet their teachers and spend a few moments helping them settle into their new routines. This is a great time to provide the teacher with background information on your child via a letter as time does not permit for individual conferences.
After this “classroom visit”, we invite you to join us in the cafetorium at 9 a.m. for our First Day Coffee where you can say hello to new and old friends and learn more about Marshall School and the many opportunities for parents and guardians to get involved. Members of the PTA and other volunteers will be on hand to help answer any questions you may have about the school. You can learn about your child’s dining and recess period, related arts schedule and how you can get involved in these special times. Moreover, you can learn about the many other volunteer events run by the Marshall PTA – from organizing Movie Days to planning Pajama Party Bingo and Field Day. There is something for everyone.
We know that the start of the 2010-2011 school year marks a milestone for many that may include a move to kindergarten, a new school, or even just a return to a structured day of learning. Some helpful “back to school” tips include:
- Make a new routine seamless.
o A new routine can take some time getting use to; so, please send your child to school with his or her bus pass and blacktop line-up number. This will help volunteers get your child to where she or he needs to be on time.
- Get in the information loop.
o Register on the Marshall/Jefferson website to get weekly email updates of what is going on at Marshall and to be included in the Marshall Directory. This is a hard-copy list of contact information for students at Marshall.
+ If you registered before September 1st, please remember to renew your registration after receiving updated classroom information for the 2010-2011 year.
- Put safety first.
o Always enter through the front door and sign-in at the front office when visiting the school.
o Please follow the direction of any school personnel while visiting Marshall to ensure your safety and the safety of your children.
- Come ready to learn and play.
o A good night’s sleep and breakfast are essential to a productive day.
o Arriving on time to school each and every day is vital for full integration in learning activities at their onset.
o Outdoor recess is a great time for students to release their extra energy. However, improper attire can thwart this experience. Make sure your children come dressed with appropriate footwear and clothing so that they can make full use of this time.
We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful school community.
